Elections 2024

The Women's Health Division (WHD) is hosting its annual elections for roles on our Executive Committee and Operational Subcommittee. We welcome your voice at the table and would love to have you involved.

 

The following roles on our Executive Committee are up for member election:


Chair (2 year term, followed by 1 year as Past Chair)

The Chair is responsible for planning and leading monthly committee meetings that facilitate discussion, problem-solving and inspiring innovative direction that aligns with the strategic plan. The Chair should regularly communicate with executives and advocate for division needs with CPA (staff and board) and Division Chair's Committee (DCC). The chair should oversee projects and group function, and provide support and direction as needed. 


The Chair is also a part of the DCC which is composed of all 14 division chairs. The DCC meets, as an individual committee and in a joint session with the staff and board of the CPA, three times per year for a full weekend meeting. Within the DCC, the Chair advocates for the WHD and contributes to CPA and DCC projects and initiatives.


Requirements:

  • Registered physiotherapist in Canada

  • CPA and WHD member

  • Passion for women’s health and pelvic health

  • Experience serving on WHD operational sub-committee, preferably as Position Lead

  • Strong leadership, communication and collaboration

  • Experience with governance and committee involvement


This role will be voted on by the membership following our annual members meeting.


Treasurer (2 year term)

The role of the treasurer is to oversee and report on the WHD's financial activities. This includes sending support to the National Office for transactions that occurred for each month as well as overseeing the budget process.


Requirements:

  • Registered physiotherapist in Canada

  • CPA and WHD member

  • Passion for women’s health and pelvic health

  • Eye for detail and good organization skills

  • Strong leadership, communication, and collaboration

  • Capable of managing figures, cash, and budgeting

The following roles on our Operational Subcommittee are up for Executive Committee election. Members of the Operational Subcommittee attend one meeting monthly and work on other projects as able:


Advocacy Lead (2 year term)

The Advocacy Lead works to manage the advocacy initiatives of the Division. This includes but is not limited to initiating education projects, hosting meetings with our membership, and helping ensure that all division activites are in line with advocacy efforts.


Requirements:

  • Registered physiotherapist in Canada

  • CPA and WHD member

  • Passion for women’s health and pelvic health

  • Strong leadership, communication, and collaboration


Communications Lead (2 year term)

The Communications Lead works to manage the communications of the Division. This includes but is not limited to website postings, e-blasts, ongoing emails, and helping to oversee and facilitate our social media and newsletter content as required.


Requirements:

  • Registered physiotherapist in Canada

  • CPA and WHD member

  • Passion for women’s health and pelvic health

  • Eye for detail, and good organization and communication skills

  • Strong leadership, communication, and collaboration

  • Social media and website development skills an asset


Newsletter Editor (2 year term)

The Newsletter Editor is responsible for organizing and editing a quarterly newsletter that will be published and shared with all WHD members via email.


Requirements:

  • Registered physiotherapist in Canada

  • Passion for women's health and pelvic health

  • Strong English reading, writing and editing skills

  • Strong communication skills for collaborating with publisher, subcommittee members, and guest editors

  • An enjoyment for reading and learning about new research related to the health sciences and physical therapy clinical practice

  • An understanding of the current sociopolitical landscape and how it relates to and impacts clinical practice

  • An openness and willingness to connect with clinicians in the community and other potential guest editors


Member Representative (2 year term)

The Member Representative works to facilitate member experience and acts as liaison between WHD members and the volunteer Executive/Operational Subcommittee team.


Requirements:

  • Registered physiotherapist in Canada

  • CPA and WHD member

  • Passion for women’s health and pelvic health

  • Eye for detail, and good organization and communication skills

  • Strong leadership, communication, and collaboration


Student Representative (1 year term)

The student representative works to promote women’s health and pelvic health to physiotherapy students across Canada by running student-wide events (Valentine’s Day Challenge, Speakers Series), answering inquiries about the WHD and PT roles within women’s health, and being the student voice for advocacy and leadership on the WHD Operational Subcommittee.

  • Organize and manage the Valentine’s Day Challenge, which is a collection drive for women’s shelters, completed by physiotherapy students and clinics around Canada

  • Collaborate with the Education Chair on Speakers Series: webinars for students and physiotherapists (4 in total from September-June)

  • Facilitate recruitment of a new student rep for the WHD

  • Participate in monthly WHD Operational Subcommittee meetings

  • Communicate with the National Students Assembly regarding WHD activities and initiatives

Requirements:

  • Physiotherapy student in Canada

  • CPA and WHD member (student)

  • Passion for women’s health and pelvic health

  • Proficient communication, time management, and teamwork skills

  • Experience using Excel/ Google Docs and an interest in fundraising

The following volunteer roles are also currently available:


Social Media Admin (1 year term)

The social media admin is responsible for the WHD's social media content and posting, with guidance from the Communications Lead. This role requires approximately 1-1.5 hours per week, with optional attendance at monthly meetings.


Content Creation Pool/Newsletter Writers (1 year term, multiple positions available)

Content creators will develop content for the WHD on an as-needed basis (newsletter articles, social media posts, special writing opportunities from CPA National Office). This role responds to specific needs of the WHD and the time commitment will fluctuate.
